Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency is a site which hosts video and commentary analysing portrayals women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning Canadian-American feminist media critic and blogger. She is the founder and the director executive of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit site that examines the representation of women in popular media narratives. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes about women and how they appear in popular culture. She also works to raise awareness of cyber-bullying targeting females and other minorities of society. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in political and social thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she's well-known and has been a speaker at TEDxWomen XOXO, TEDxWomen and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Since her early years Sarkeesian was interested in gender issues and feminist theories. When she was still in school, in 2009 she developed her Feminist Frequency Website. The woman with ambitions to launch a web series that would examine gender representation in video games. However, she found herself the target of an online harassment campaign. The incident did not deter her, rather it bolstered her commitment to be feminist critique of the media. As a result of the many accomplishments she's made to feministism, she's the recipient of numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded numerous prizes and founded Feminist Frequency An educational, non-profit group that investigates the way women are represented in popular stories of culture.
